Study in the United Kingdom
from Nepal
Complete 2026 Guide
A complete, honest guide for Nepali students — entry requirements, the true cost in NPR, the student visa process, and everything that changed in 2026.
Study in the UK from Nepal in 2026
The United Kingdom remains the most popular destination for Nepali students choosing to study abroad. Each year, thousands of students — from Kathmandu and Pokhara to Biratnagar and Butwal — begin their academic lives at British universities. The reasons are as practical as they are aspirational.
A Bachelor’s degree in the UK takes three years. A Master’s takes one. These are shorter programmes than those in the United States, Canada, or Australia, which means lower total spending and an earlier return to career-building. UK degrees are recognised by employers in more than 180 countries, and the post-study work options — while changing in 2027 — remain a meaningful opportunity for graduates who plan carefully.
At Edupark UK, we work exclusively with students who want to study in the United Kingdom. This guide reflects what we tell every student who visits our office in Bagbazar: the complete, honest picture — not a collection of optimistic headlines, but the actual requirements, the actual costs, and the decisions that will determine whether your application succeeds.

Why Study in the UK?
UK universities have been educating international students for centuries. British degrees carry weight with employers in over 180 countries — a reputation built on consistent academic standards, strong research output, and professional accreditation recognised globally.
01 — A qualification that travels
A degree from a UK university is treated not as a foreign qualification but as a mark of academic rigour by employers across the world. Whether you plan to build your career in Nepal, remain in the UK after graduation, or work anywhere else, a British degree opens doors that would otherwise remain closed.
02 — Shorter programmes, lower total cost
A Bachelor’s degree takes three years in the UK versus four in the United States or Canada. A taught Master’s takes one year. For Nepali families making a significant financial commitment, this saving — one or two full years of tuition and living costs — is often the deciding factor.
03 — The right to work while you study
Students on a UK Student visa can work up to twenty hours per week during term time and full-time during official university vacations. At the National Living Wage of £12.71 per hour from April 2026, twenty hours per week amounts to approximately £1,100 per month before tax during term — enough to cover a significant portion of living costs outside London.
04 — Post-study work opportunity
After completing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, the Graduate Route visa allows you to remain in the UK and work without employer sponsorship. This period reduces from two years to eighteen months for UG and PG graduates from 1 January 2027. If you apply for the Graduate Route on or before 31 December 2026, the two-year entitlement still applies. Doctoral graduates retain three years throughout.
05 — University scholarships reduce your costs from year one
The universities we work with offer merit scholarships of between £2,000 and £5,000 per year — awarded automatically at the point of admission to students who meet the CGPA threshold. No separate application, no interview, no essay. For a three-year Bachelor’s at a university like Roehampton or the University of West London, this can reduce your total tuition outlay by £6,000 to £9,000. We identify and apply for relevant awards for every student we work with.
06 — A welcoming environment
The UK is home to over 600,000 international students. Cities including Aldershot, Reading, and London have established Nepali and Gurkha communities that make the first weeks abroad considerably easier. Edupark UK students arrive prepared for this transition, not surprised by it.
Entry Requirements for Nepali Students
UK universities assess applicants on academic qualifications, English proficiency, and — for postgraduate programmes — the quality of the Statement of Purpose and references. Below are the standard minimum requirements. Individual universities vary; we advise students based on their specific profile and target institutions.
| Level | Academic Requirement | IELTS Minimum | Additional |
|---|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate (BA/BSc) | +2 completed; 55%+ (GPA 2.6+) | 6.0 (5.5 per band) | Personal statement, references |
| Postgraduate (MSc/MA) | Bachelor’s with 60%+ (CGPA 2.4+) | 6.5 (6.0 per band) | SOP, two references, CV |
| MBA | Bachelor’s 60%+ and 2+ years work experience | 6.5–7.0 | SOP, GMAT (some universities) |
Post-92 vs Russell Group
English Proficiency
You need an approved English language test for both your university application and your UK Student visa. The two tests accepted by UKVI are IELTS Academic (UKVI) and PTE Academic (UKVI). Duolingo is accepted by some universities for admission but is not accepted for the visa.
A Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter — confirming that your previous studies were taught in English — is accepted by many universities as an alternative to IELTS for admission purposes only. It does not satisfy the visa requirement. We clarify this for every student we work with, because the distinction matters and a visa refusal is an avoidable outcome.

The UK Student Visa — Process Overview
Applying for a UK Student visa from Nepal requires careful preparation across several weeks. The process is not complicated, but errors — delayed CAS, insufficient bank evidence, incorrect TB test clinic — can cost you an intake. We guide students through every stage at no charge.
01 — Counselling and eligibility assessment
We assess your academic qualifications, English proficiency status, and financial position, and advise you on which universities and programmes you are eligible for. This takes place at our Bagbazar office or online — and it is completely free.
02 — Programme and university selection
Based on your profile, budget, and career goals, we shortlist institutions and programmes. We work with universities across the UK, from Russell Group institutions to specialist providers.
03 — Application and offer
We prepare and submit your application — academic transcripts, English test results, Statement of Purpose, and supporting documents. Conditional offer letters typically arrive within two to four weeks.
04 — Pre-CAS stage
Once you have your offer, the following must be completed before your university will issue the CAS letter:
- Obtain the No Objection Letter from the Ministry of Education (NPR 2,000)
- Pay the tuition deposit (3,000–4,000 GBP, or full first-year tuition if possible)
- Complete the TB test at the IOM or another UKVI-approved clinic in Kathmandu
- Obtain a Police Report
- Ensure required funds have been held in your account for at least 28 consecutive calendar days
- Prepare for the Credibility Interview — conducted by the university, usually by video
05 — CAS application
Your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is a 14-character reference number issued by your university once all pre-CAS conditions are met. It is required to apply for your UK Student visa. The following are needed: valid passport, birth certificate (English translation and original), academic transcripts, English test certificate, TB certificate, funds confirmation, and tuition deposit receipt.
06 — Credibility interview
The credibility interview is conducted by the university to confirm you are a genuine student. It takes approximately 30 minutes by video call and typically covers your reasons for choosing this specific course and university, why you chose the UK, and your funding arrangements. We prepare every student thoroughly for this interview.
Visa application checklist
- Appointment letter and completed online visa application form
- CAS letter (14-character reference number)
- TB clearance certificate from UKVI-approved clinic
- Original passport and copies of the data page
- Copies of all previous UK visas and entry stamps (if applicable)
- Academic documents — degrees, 12th and 10th certificates and transcripts
- Reference letter (academic)
- Bank balance confirmation letter showing minimum balance held for 28 consecutive days prior to visa submission
- Sponsorship letter from parents or legal guardian (if parent-sponsored)

- ATAS certificate, if required (certain postgraduate science and engineering programmes)
TB test. Nepal is on the UK Home Office mandatory tuberculosis screening list. Every Nepali student applying for a UK visa of six months or longer must be tested at a UKVI-approved clinic and submit the clearance certificate. Results are valid for six months. Always verify the current approved clinic list at gov.uk/tb-test-visa/nepal before booking — the IOM in Kathmandu is the most commonly used approved centre.
Processing time and outcome
Standard UK Student visa processing from Nepal takes approximately three weeks. A priority service — decision within five working days — is available at additional cost. Once granted, you may arrive in the UK up to one month before your course begins. Collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from the designated UK post office within ten days of arrival; the address is in your CAS letter.
The Graduate Route Visa — What Changed in 2026
The Graduate Route visa is confirmed to continue. It allows international graduates to remain in the UK and work — at any employer, in any role — without requiring a job offer or employer sponsorship.
The duration is changing. The UK government’s Immigration White Paper confirmed a reduction from two years to eighteen months for Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates. This takes effect from 1 January 2027.
In practice: if you apply for the Graduate Route on or before 31 December 2026, you receive two years. If you apply from 1 January 2027 onwards, you receive eighteen months. Doctoral graduates are not affected — the three-year entitlement remains unchanged.
Eighteen months is still a meaningful period. Most Nepali graduates who secure employment in the UK do so within the first three to six months after graduation. The time is sufficient to transition to a Skilled Worker visa — the route to long-term UK residency. We discuss the full post-study pathway with every student we advise, because planning your UK journey from the start makes every stage easier.

The September 2026 Intake — Apply Now, Before 15 July
If you are considering the September 2026 intake, now is the right time to act. The honest advice we give every student who comes to our office in Bagbazar is this: apply as early as possible, and do not let July pass without submitting your application. 15 July 2026 is the practical deadline — applications submitted after this date are at serious risk of running out of time for CAS issuance, visa processing, and pre-departure preparation before a September start.
Here is why the timeline is tighter than it looks. From the point of your application, you need time to receive and accept your offer, meet any conditions, obtain your No Objection Letter, pay your tuition deposit, complete your TB test at the IOM, build your 28-day bank evidence, and then submit your visa application. The Kathmandu VFS centre gets extremely busy in July and August. A standard visa decision takes three weeks. Add travel time and pre-departure preparation, and the window between a July application and a September enrolment date is genuinely narrow.
The January 2027 intake remains an option if September 2026 is no longer achievable. Applications for January entry typically open from May 2026 and close around October. We advise each student individually on the most suitable timeline. The one thing we say consistently: the students who start the process earliest have the most options.
