Step by Step Process to Study in the UK
Educational institutions of the UK offer a large variety of degrees and programs. This has made studying in the United Kingdom continues to be a preferred choice for Nepali students. Additionally, their degrees are internationally recognized with remarkably academic excellence and diverse learning environment. Higher education in the UK is therefore sought after by almost every student. However, to successfully study in the UK from Nepal, it is important to understand step by step process to study in the UK clearly. This guide outlines the complete journey, from counselling to arrival at the university, to help students prepare with confidence. This is the process that will help you understand how Edupark helps you from start to finish.
Counselling
The first step to study in the UK from Nepal begins with professional counselling and qualification assessment. During this stage, a student’s academic qualifications, grades, English language proficiency, and financial background are carefully evaluated. Based on this assessment, students are informed whether they currently meet the requirements for studying in the UK or what additional steps they need to take to become eligible, such as improving English scores or arranging financial documents.
Program & University Selection
After assessing the student’s profile, guidance is provided for selecting the most suitable programme and university. This selection is made by considering the student’s academic background, career goals, preferred field of study, and budget. Then it is crucial to look at the intakes and deadlines of a particular college or university. Proper programme and university selection is crucial, as it not only affects academic success but also plays an important role in the visa decision process.
Application for Offer
Once the programme and university are finalised, students proceed with the application for an offer letter. At this stage, students are required to submit academic transcripts and certificates, English language test reports, a statement of purpose, and any additional documents requested by the university. Universities review these documents to determine whether the student meets their admission requirements before issuing an offer.
Pre-CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies)
The pre-CAS stage is one of the most important steps for students planning to study in the UK from Nepal. During this phase, students must obtain a No Objection Letter and pay their tuition fees in the UK, usually for the first year. If full payment is not possible, many universities accept an initial deposit of around GBP 3,000 to 4,000. Students are also required to obtain a tuberculosis (TB) test certificate from an approved IOM clinic, secure a police report, and prepare for the university’s credibility interview. Additionally, students must ensure that the required funds have been maintained in their bank account for at least 28 consecutive days before applying for the CAS. Supporting documents such as an affidavit of support or a relationship certificate with the sponsor may also be required.
CAS Application
Once all pre-CAS requirements are completed, students can apply for their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies. The CAS application requires a valid passport, birth certificate with English translation, official academic transcripts, English language test certificates, TB test certificate, ATAS certificate if applicable, proof of funds maintained for 28 days or more, and proof of tuition fee payment. After submission, the university reviews the documents and proceeds with the CAS processing.
Credibility Interview
Following the CAS application, students are required to attend a credibility interview conducted by the university. This interview is typically held online via Skype or over the phone and aims to assess whether the applicant is a genuine student. Questions usually focus on the reasons for choosing the specific course and university, the motivation for studying in the UK, reasons for not studying in Nepal, funding arrangements, and details about sponsors. Upon successful completion of the interview, the university issues the CAS, which generally takes around one week.
UK Student Visa Process
The next portion of this process is the Visa information. A clear understanding of the UK student visa process is essential for students planning to study in the UK from Nepal. After receiving the CAS, students must confirm their accommodation address, which is required while completing the online visa application form. Students are then required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which is currently GBP 400 per year, with the same amount applicable for dependents. Once the IHS payment is completed, the visa application is submitted online, followed by booking an appointment at VFS Kathmandu. Students must visit VFS with all required documents and pay the visa application fee, which is currently GBP 348, with the same fee applicable for dependents.
Outcome of Your Visa Application
The UK student visa application process usually takes around three weeks, although processing times may be longer during peak seasons. After receiving the visa, students should plan their travel by confirming accommodation and flight arrangements and ensuring they carry sufficient funds to support their expenses for living in the UK.
Arrival at the University
Upon arrival in the UK, students must report to the international office of their university for registration. Universities typically begin the semester with an orientation programme to help international students settle into their academic and cultural environment, followed by the commencement of classes.
Tuberculosis (TB) Test Requirement
Students planning to study in the UK for more than six months are required to undergo a tuberculosis test if they are residents of countries classified as high-risk for TB, including Nepal. The test must be conducted at a clinic approved by the UK Home Office. However, students who have lived for at least six months in a country where TB screening is not required and have not been away from that country for more than six months may be exempt from providing a TB test certificate.
